To apply, you must have the following:

  • A current MOT certificate and roadworthy vehicle
  • UK Mobile number and smartphone
  • UK driving licence, valid and full (DVLA check code verified)
  • Proof of ‘Right to Work’ in the UK
  • Recent bank statement or utility bill, dated within the last three months
  • ‘Hire and Reward’ insurance proof. You can obtain this in-app with Zego insurance
  • Certification of a ‘Goods in Transit’ insurance policy (optional for cars, mandatory for vans)

We use an automated payment system to pay all our drivers. During the sign-up process, you’ll need to create and connect a Stripe account.

A Stripe account is free to set up and is what we will use to pay you for all your completed delivery jobs. Setting up a Stripe account requires an existing bank account.

There are two types of vehicle insurance you will require to be a driver for DeliveryApp:

1. ‘Hire and Reward’ insurance: You will be legally required to take this out as it is required when you are carrying items in return for payment.

You can purchase this type of insurance with Zego insurance in the mobile app. Just follow these steps to connect your Zego Account within the app:

DeliveryApp > Account > My Zego Account > Proceed (enter relevant details

2. ‘Goods in Transit’ Insurance: This level of insurance is available at a low monthly rate from most vehicle insurance providers. All van drivers will require a minimum cover of £10,000. Self-employed car drivers for us will need a minimum cover of £5,000. DeliveryApp will cover the cost of any genuine claim up to £250.

Please make sure you have the most up-to-date version of the app. You can check this by viewing the app settings on your phone, or update your phone settings to background app refresh, to make sure your phone automatically downloads the latest version once it is available.

When logging in, please make sure you have input the correct email and password. If you cannot remember your password, reset it and a link to reset your password will be emailed to you. Check your junk email for this email if you do not immediately see it in your inbox.

If you have tried all of the above and are still having problems, then please send us an email to driverteam@deliveryapp.com with the following information:

  • Which phone you have and model e.g., iPhone X
  • If you have been able to log in or not
  • The app version (located at the bottom of the ‘Account’ section)

‘Goods in Transit’ insurance is cover for the items you are carrying. If they were to be stolen or damaged, ‘Goods in Transit’ insurance would cover this. You need a minimum cover of £5,000 for a car and £10,000 for any larger sized vehicle. You need this in addition to ‘Hire and Reward’ insurance, as this only covers the vehicle and not the items inside it.

There is no requirement for a uniform when working as a driver through DeliveryApp. However, presenting a professional appearance to customers and clients will certainly offer a good impression, so this may be something that you would want to consider. The decision is, however, entirely up to each individual driver.

All DeliveryApp drivers choose how much work they want to undertake and, as such, are paid on a job-by-job basis. This means they work as freelancers rather than being employees of DeliveryApp, and, as such, will need to complete a tax return in respect of any earnings they receive from work they undertake for DeliveryApp. This can be done by registering with HMRC and can be completed online and is the responsibility of each individual driver and not DeliveryApp.

There is a bit more to being a delivery driver than simply being able to drive, although obviously, a driving licence is essential. The job can be a challenging one, and as such, a good range of soft skills, such as good communication, are a must. Whether you are talking to the company you are collecting from or the recipient of the goods you are transporting, communicating in a professional manner is essential, and this includes being able to communicate in a calm manner when faced with any issues.
